Teaching Philosophy
I teach more than just music.
Every student is different. As your teacher, l tailor my teaching approach to every student. It is my goal to help advance each student to be the best they can be musically. The teaching does not just start and end with clarinet technique and music. I am a big believer that music can teach us to be the best person we can be. To be more empathetic, compassionate, brave, and strong. With support from the teacher, a music student will learn these important traits for not only music, but for life.

My music lessons practice many of the recent pedagogical findings that increase learning efficiency and quality. I especially form our lessons around the ideas of neural-plasticity and the "Good Stuff". Neural plasticity is a revolutionary discovery that informed teachers that learning physically changes are brain structure. Neural pathways are either created or strengthened whenever a skill is being practiced. Practicing skills in different ways is highly effective in strengthening these neural pathways. Body movement and mental practice are two techniques that are implemented in our lessons in order to strengthen these pathways in various approaches. Our music practices are always structured with the science of learning in mind.

The "Good Stuff" is a concept that essentially describes the 'thing' that makes an activity or skill so enjoyable. In our lessons, I strive to find what attracts a student to music making and l craft lessons in a way that makes them experience that while learning in each lesson.

My teaching philosophy structures music lessons to be effective and fun!
